Medicaid Perinatal Risk Tool (MPRT)
The Medicaid Perinatal Risk Tool is a web application developed through partnership with Ohio Departments of Medicaid, Higher Education, and Health and the Ohio Colleges of Medicine for the purpose of reducing infant mortality and improving maternal health outcomes. The following tools are included in MPRT:
EHR-connected Perinatal Risk Assessment Form (PRAF-EHR)
The PRAF-EHR obtains information from the patient's Epic medical record and then automates transmission of that information into the Ohio Department of Medicaid Perinatal Risk Assessment Form (PRAF) located at the NurtureOhio website.
Prenatal and Postpartum Risk Calculators
The Prenatal and Postpartum Risk Calculators present healthcare providers with estimated risks at different stages of the patient's pregnancy using models developed with data from Ohio Medicaid patients. This risk probability could be used in a variety of use-cases such as identifying high risk patients for an intervention or helping with risk communication.
- The Preterm Birth Risk Calculator (PTB-RC) estimates the probability of preterm birth for an individual patient.
- The Prenatal Severe Maternal Morbidity Risk Calculator (SMM-RC) estimates the probability of SMM during the labor and delivery admission and can be used starting at 32 weeks gestation through the infant delivery.
- The Postpartum Depression Risk Calculator (PPD) estimates an individual's risk of developing postpartum depression in the 365 days postpartum. The calculator is intended to be used during the delivery hospitalization to coordinate outpatient follow up.
- The Postpartum Severe Maternal Morbidity Risk Calculator (PPSMM-RC) is intended to be used during hospital admission and estimates the probability of SMM in the postpartum time period (after inpatient discharge and up to 42 days postpartum). The risk calculator is intended to be used to identify patients at high risk of PP SMM to ensure close follow up postpartum.
- The Postpartum Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (PPMOUD) Retention in Treatment Risk Calculator is intended for use for patients with OUD on MOUD during pregnancy. This risk calculator estimates an individual’s risk of discontinuing medication for OUD in the 365 days postpartum. It helps identify patients at high risk of discontinuation so providers can offer added support and resources during this critical period.
The MPRT risk calculators do not save or store data.
The Medicaid Perinatal Risk Tool was developed by the Infant Mortality Research Partnership (IMRP), a project sponsored by the Ohio Departments of Medicaid, Higher Education, and Health.
