Medicaid Perinatal Risk Tool (MPRT)

The Medicaid Perinatal Risk Tool is a web application developed through partnership between Ohio Department of Medicaid, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Ohio Colleges of Medicine for the purpose of reducing infant mortality and maternal morbidity.

Preterm Birth Risk Calculator (PTB-RC)

This tool presents healthcare providers with estimated risk of preterm birth at different stages of the patient's pregnancy that is calculated using data that is specific to Ohio populations. In addition, MPRT presents healthcare providers with data visualizations that support shared decision making with their patients. The Risk Calculator collects data from Epic to populate the calculator. The provider is prompted to manually enter information needed by the calculator that was not found in Epic.

EHR-connected Perinatal Risk Assessment Form (PRAF-EHR)

The PRAF-EHR obtains information from the patient's medical record and then automates transmission of that information into the Ohio Department of Medicaid Pregnancy Risk Assessment form (ePRAF) located at the NurtureOhio website.

Severe Maternal Morbidity Risk Calculators (SMM-RC)

For pregnant women at 32 weeks or later gestation, providers will have the option to use the SMM risk calculators within MPRT. The SMM risk calculators includes two models:

  1. 32 weeks gestation up to delivery hospitalization: The first SMM risk calculator estimates the probability of SMM during the labor and delivery admission and can be used starting at 32 weeks gestation through the day of hospital admission.
  2. Hospital admission through one year postpartum: The second SMM risk calculator is intended to be used during hospital admission and estimates the probability of SMM in the postpartum time period, after discharge and up to 365 days postpartum.

These SMM models were similarly developed using data from the Ohio Departments of Medicaid and Health. The SMM risk calculator is intended to facilitate identification of patients with increased risk for SMM.

The MPRT risk calculators do not save or store data.

The Medicaid Perinatal Risk Tool was developed by the Infant Mortality Research Partnership (IMRP), a project sponsored by the Ohio Departments of Medicaid, Higher Education, and Health.
